RECALL PETITION UPDATE ...
Recall Petition for the THREE Village Board seats deemed sufficient by the Village
special Village Board Meeting has been called for 12/5/2019 to approve the Recall Election and set the date - Dec. 2nd, 2019
The Recall Petition for the THREE Village Board seats has been deemed sufficient by the Village and a special Village Board Meeting has been called for 12/5/2019 to approve the Recall Election and set the date.
Please ATTEND this meeting if able to show your support.
Recall Election will likely be set for Tuesday January 7, 2020.
Below is an update on what has been going on behind the scenes ...
We know its seemed like things were quiet recently - but in reality there has been a lot going on. The state election law statutes required the Recall Petition to be completed and filed within 60 days. Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers this was accomplished - the completed petition was filed 10/28/2019.
The statutes allowed the officeholders being recalled 10 days to file a challenge to the petition. Kim Putz and Barrt Palmer filed challenges to their recalls. They various claimed the petitions were invalid, the people circulating them were not proper, some of the signatures were invalid, that we had not provided a legitimate reason for them to be recalled (that they'd done nothing wrong) and more. None of their challenges had any merit, legally or otherwise.
We had 5 days to file a response to their challenges, and timely filed detailed rebuttals, with legal cites disproving each if their claims, to their challenges. The Challengers had 2 days to file response to our rebuttals. We have not been notified of any such responses being filed. Once that 2 days has passed the filing official is required to issue a Certificate of Sufficiency (or Insufficiency) with 14 days. This Certificate must also be filed within 31 days of the date we filed the Recall Petition.
That date was last week. As of right now we have not been notified of the issuance of a Certificate of Sufficiency - which is now overdue. That point would appear to be moot now however, as the scheduling of the Board meeting to set the Recall Election, would indicate that our Recall Petition has been determined sufficient.
UPDATE: The Village reviewed the petition, the challenges, and our rebuttal, and on 11/26/2019 emailed Certificates of Sufficiency for each of the three Recall Petitions ...
State statute requires the recall election "shall be held on the Tuesday of the 6th week commencing after the date on which the certificate of sufficiency is filed." The Board must follow this statute in setting the date.
While the last couple months have involved a lot of detailed work and effort ... the hard part is still before us. Candidates must register within 2 weeks of the date the election is set. Its time for a few good people, who want to help the community finally take control and effect real change, to step up.
And then the entire community will have their most important task ... to get the word out and insure these new candidates get elected.
The Somerset community needs to send a clear and unequivocal message - the time for change is here. The time of special interests control is over. There is a long road ahead ... and it will require the support of the community to insure they end this reigh - and the community regains control of the Village.
Again, we encourage a STRONG turnout for the special meeting 12/5. Wear your Somerset Strong apparel (if you need tshirts contact Rob Neubarth).
Make sure the Board knows how the community feels - that it is no longer business as usual in the Village of Somerset - that they represent your interests and not those of special interests./
The time for change is now.
